Come ask these questions with me June 17-24 in Elgin, Illinois. ShawnT Stone and I will be installing and premiering a new work, sponsored by Side Street Studio Arts and Going Dutch.

Paper, Print, and Map Making Workshop!

Going Dutch is an artist residency series organized by Side Street Studio Arts of Elgin, IL that is a celebration of the female and nonbinary voice in dance, music, theatre, and the visual arts. The Museum is welcoming these artists into our space as they create an exhibition based around shared community stories sparked by old maps.

This workshop will teach the basics of paper and print making. Wear clothes you don’t mind getting messy or wet!

Stay after the workshop for the Roadmaps Exhibition, featuring art by our collaborators.

Mapping Ourstories: At this workshop participants will engage in storytelling, conversation, and map rendering. Maps of Elgin will serve as a catalyst for discourse and activities centered around change, memories, and identifying landmarks in our town which hold meaning. Facilitators will consider art and its relationship to cartography- both in the artistry of mapmaking and the ways maps shape our own creative and thought processes. We will consider how maps have changed over time, and how we see those changes reflected in ourselves and our community.
